District D1 is a vibrant, changing district with many hardworking residents who are active in creating a safe and peaceful community. Historically, District D1 has been plagued with crime and disorder issues including prostitution, break and enters, assaults, and robberies. Break and enters are the current largest of the eight crime indicators in District D1 and have been an ongoing problem.

Community Initiatives
The District 1 community sergeant and community liaison constable will be coordinating an annual district crime prevention conference in addition to providing Crime Prevention through Environmental Design assessments when required.
Immediate notification will be delivered to communities being impacted by break and enters. “Safe and Secure Home” kits have been distributed and will continue to be distributed to a number of homes located in District D1 neighbourhoods. These educational strategies will take place in partnership with the 118 Avenue N.E.T. and Safe Streets Program volunteers.
The community sergeant, community liaison constable and the neighbourhood empowerment team will work with the community to assist them in assuming ownership of neighbourhood concerns. Work will continue with the very successful Block Captain and Safe Streets Program, which was initiated in 2008. There will also be a focus on areas with repeat calls for service and will provide information to the community on safety, security, and crime prevention related matters. Partnerships will also continue with the Alberta Sheriff’s Safe Communities and Neighbourhoods team to identify and shut down disorder houses in the district.
District D1 officers are looking forward to further success and a safe and secure 2011.
