Community Initiatives

The majority of crimes prevalent in this area include shoplifting, panhandling, and property crimes. Over the last few years as the population grew, assaults, robberies, and other crimes of similar nature increased.

We regularly liaise with other EPS specialized units: Public Safety Compliance Team, Capital Region Housing, Alberta Health Services, Métis Urban Housing, Mill Woods Crime Council, Edmonton Public Schools Board, Edmonton Social Services, Edmonton Transit System, MLAs, Councillors, business owners, and residents.

The primary goal for 2010 is to continue to work side-by-side to focus on these issues identifying causes, developing solutions, and working collaboratively with the communities.

In 2010, District E3 will be involved in Reaching Out: Policing for Prevention:

  • reduce repeat call for service
  • proactively prevent, reduce crime and disorder in high-crime areas
  • continued support of youth/police collaboration (Da Bom & H.A.L.O.)
  • create safer places
  • traffic and pedestrian issues
  • using information provided by Report a Drug House Program (RADH) to deal with local drug houses
  • working collaboratively with the Public Safety Compliance Team (City Bylaw, ALCB, EFD, and EPS) to assist local licensed establishments in ensuring the best business practices
