Poster campaign to address commercial robberies
Commercial robberies have been consistently going down in the last five to seven years in Edmonton. Commercial businesses include convenience stores, gas stations and liquor stores.
“We can do better,” says Staff Sergeant Howard Kunce of the EPS Robbery Section. “We want to ensure the decline continues.”
Increased use of better quality and better placed surveillance cameras as well as adoption of basic crime prevention initiatives from our Storewatch program have contributed to the lower number of commercial robberies, says Kunce.
One of the best ways to safeguard both employees and businesses from being victimized is to ensure proper safety precautions are adopted and followed. For more information on what that includes visit our Storewatch web page.
There is evidence to support that adopting Storewatch robbery prevention practices works. A north-end convenience store saw the number of robberies drop from 19 in two years to seven in two years as a result of a thorough Storewatch review and implementation of the recommended changes.
