About N.E.T.

N.E.T. Approach

The N.E.T. approach to crime and disorder in targeted communities comprises a three-pronged approach; community specific policing, community mobilization and crime prevention programming. Strategies based on the N.E.T. approach are implemented over a two to four year period and involve a complex series of interactions among N.E.T. team members, residents, businesses, agencies, government and other stakeholders.

Community-specific policing involves personalized law enforcement that brings the concerns of the community together with intelligence-based policing strategies, forming a collaborative approach to reducing and preventing crime and fear of crime.

Community mobilization involves identifying leading lights and assets within the community, initiating dialogue, enhancing community participation, supporting resident-driven initiatives and coordinating community resources.

Crime prevention programming involves implementing some or all of N.E.T.’s six core crime prevention programs and transferring ownership of these programs to the community through Community Crime Councils.
