Violent offender released

In the interest of public safety, the Edmonton Police Service is issuing a warning about Dennis Rodney Cardinal (also known as Dennis Rodney Lajimodiere), who is being released from the Port- Cartier Institution after completing a 8 year, 9 month sentence for Manslaughter, Possession of a Weapon, Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Harm, Fail to Comply with a Probation Order, Fail to Comply with a Recognizance Order, Assault with a Weapon, and Assault Peace Officer.

Cardinal is considered by police to be a violent offender who poses a risk of significant harm to the community. 

Cardinal will be residing in the Edmonton area and will be monitored closely by the EPS Behavioural Assessment Unit.

The Edmonton Police Service is issuing this information and warning after careful deliberation of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform the members of the community.

Members of the public are advised that the intent of this process is to enable citizens to take suitable precautionary measures.  Releasing this information is NOT intended to encourage people to engage in any form of vigilante action.
