MRU #:TR17R049

The Edmonton Police Service is investigating a single-vehicle fatal collision that occurred yesterday morning, Monday, Dec. 4, 2017, in the eastbound lanes of the Anthony Henday.

Southeast Division patrol members responded to a collision that occurred at approximately 8 a.m. Monday, in the eastbound lanes near Anthony Henday at Gateway Boulevard.

It was reported to police that a 2015 Freightliner semi-tractor-trailer unit was observed veering off the road, before striking a light post. The vehicle allegedly continued to travel off the road and down a berm and through a barbed-wire fence, before coming to rest approximately 200 metres from the Henday.

Edmonton Fire Rescue Services and EMS paramedics arrived on scene and performed life-saving efforts until paramedics could transport the male adult driver to hospital.

The male driver was pronounced deceased at hospital shortly thereafter. Investigators believe the driver suffered a medical episode prior to the collision.

This is Edmonton’s 30th traffic fatality of 2017.
