Police investigating patio door B&E series

For Immediate Release:19-Jan-2018 @ 2:35 PM
MRU #:18R006

The Edmonton Police Service is reminding citizens to properly secure all sliding doors, on the heels of a month-long residential B&E series in several south-side neighbourhoods.

Investigators also released an image today, of a male suspect captured on video surveillance, breaking into one of the homes (see below).

Southwest Division officers began investigating the series beginning on Dec. 14, 2017, following three reported break-and-enters in the neighbourhood of Brookview. Homes in Eagle Ridge, Rhatigan, Wolf Willow and Richfield, the latter of which is in southeast Edmonton, have also since been targeted with the most recent incident occurring on Jan. 12, 2018.

In each incident, at least one male suspect is seen breaching the home’s rear sliding doors, before heading straight for the bedrooms. Investigators believe the suspect(s) are targeting jewellery, with one home owner reporting more than $16,000 in jewellery being stolen.

All of the events have taken place on weekdays with the suspect(s) targeting vacant homes with entry thru the rear glass patio doors.

Residents are asked to consider placing a piece of dowelling in the bottom track of their patio doors as an extra level of security.

If you are planning to be away on vacation, it is also recommended to notify a trusting neighbor to keep an eye on your property and to immediately report any suspicious activity to police.

Anyone with information about these break-and-enters or the suspect seen in the photo below are encouraged to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.tipsubmit.com/start.htm.
