For Immediate Release:09-Jan-2018 @ 11:26 AM
MRU #:18R002

Several suspects are facing multiple weapons-related charges in connection with an alleged shooting incident near a southwest Edmonton hotel.

Southwest Division members responded to a weapons complaint in the parking lot of a hotel near the Whitemud Freeway and Gateway Boulevard, at approximately 4:25 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2018.

It was reported to police that a male occupant of a black Ford Escape approached two occupants of a white Suzuki Grand Vitara, smashing the passenger-side window with a firearm, before shooting out the front passenger tire and fleeing the area. Both vehicles were last witnessed travelling westbound down the Whitemud Freeway.

Police were again summoned to the same parking lot at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday, after learning the same Ford Escape had returned to the hotel. Southwest Division patrol officers approached the vehicle and observed a sawed-off shotgun in plain view inside the vehicle.

The occupants of the Ford Escape were found to be associated to a suite in the hotel.  In total, four suspects were eventually arrested without incident; two in the lobby of the hotel and two in a suite. Police also discovered two handguns in the suite during their investigation.

Sheldon Morrison, 33, Amber Sunshine, 21, Dominic Weber, 21, and Nickole Steiner, 26, are all facing multiple weapons-related charges. Weber is also facing a charge of possession of a controlled substance, after police discovered quantities of heroin (1.9 grams) and fentanyl (seven pills) on his person.
