Assessors for the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) completed their on-site assessment of the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) at the end of April.
They measured the EPS against more than 450 international standards, such as analysis of policy, crime prevention programs, victim services, training, emergency preparedness, community relationships, accountability, and procedures.
“Accreditation shows our commitment to excellence in leadership, resource management, and service delivery,” explains Chief Mike Boyd. “Every individual can take pride in this police service, knowing it represents the very best in law enforcement.”
The on-site assessment was a success, and the EPS will have its accreditation for another three years.
Background
The Edmonton Police Service successfully attained certification under CALEA in 1988. Since this initial certification, the EPS has maintained its CALEA status with six successful re-accreditation assessments in 93, 98, 01, 04, 07, and 10.
