EPS launches new crime mapping tool

16-Jul-2009

The Edmonton Police Service has developed a crime mapping application for the public to view crime in neighbourhoods across the city.

The Edmonton Police Service is committed to innovative and responsive community policing. The new crime mapping tool will provide members and citizens with a better understanding of what is going on the neighbourhoods they work and live in.

By accessing this timely information on reported crime, you will be able to know what is happening in your neighbourhood. By knowing what is going on, we can work together to reduce and prevent crime.

Providing our citizens with the real picture of neighbourhood crime is the first step in engaging them to do something about it.

Members of the public will be better equipped with knowledge to work collaboratively with the EPS to reduce and prevent crime.

“We begin to make a difference by empowering our neighbourhood partners through knowledge. This new crime mapping tool is a step in that direction,” says A/S/Sgt. John Warden, Business Performance Section.

Public safety is more than just dots on a map. Our new crime mapping tool puts crime into perspective by tracking the increases and decreases over time. It will help identify crime problems as they happen.

Together, we can create comprehensive crime prevention initiatives.

The EPS needs you to be an informed crime prevention partner. You are the eyes and ears of your neighbourhood.
