North Division is a great place to work

19-Oct-2009

“I was just 19-years-old when I had the privilege of joining the Edmonton Police Service,” remarks Sergeant Brian Wozniak.

When Wozniak applied to the EPS, there were only 25 positions available for a pool of 1,500 applicants. There’s no question, Sgt. Brian Wozniak made the right move when he applied to the EPS as a young graduate of the Grant MacEwan Law Enforcement program.

Looking back on his days as a youthful Constable, Wozniak reflects upon the tremendous life experience he has garnered over the years. Stepping into the middle of a domestic dispute as a freshly minted Constable, he was going face-to-face with married couples who were twice his age and more.

“That experience laid the foundation for my ability to meet any challenge head-on,” notes Wozniak.

Today, he’s a supervisor, one who has a wealth of knowledge about police work. As a career member, he enjoys mentoring younger members. A few years ago, he worked with recruits in the Training Section, where he was in charge of firearms training. In that capacity, he went through seven classes (about 350 recruits).

“Seeing the former trainees progress in their careers is extremely fulfilling,” said Wozniak.

Having worked in a number of units, and in most divisions, Wozniak has a keen appreciation for the close-knit fellowship that is shared by most police members.

“When you go into a threatening situation, you know that your team members have your back,” Wozniak notes.

That level of trust creates a strong bond in the EPS, a bond that just gets stronger over the years.

“North Division is a great place to work; the team atmosphere here is particularly strong, and the people are just great,” says Wozniak.
