Sirens for Life celebrates 10th anniversary

04-Jan-2012

The Edmonton Police Service is proud to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Sirens for Life Blood Donor Challenge, running Jan. 5 to Feb. 4, 2012.

A ceremony at City Hall on Friday, Jan. 6 marks the official launch of the challenge.

Every year Police, Fire and EMS teams in Edmonton compete against our counterparts in Calgary to see who can bring in the most blood donations throughout this friendly month-long battle. Our goal for 2012 is to help Canadian Blood Services collect 7,000 donations throughout the challenge.

Our members see the need for blood first-hand on the job and this unique partnership with Canadian Blood Services gives us an opportunity to give back in another way to help improve the health and vitality of hospital patients in our communities.

Calgary won the challenge last year, so we need all the help we can get to take back the title. Beating Calgary is terrific incentive, though we all know the true winners of Sirens for Life are the thousands of patients we’ll help.

We encourage you to rally your friends and family members and give blood. When you donate, be sure to tell them you are giving blood on behalf of Sirens for Life.
