Stollery football game exceeds fundraising goal

03-Aug-2010

Despite lower than previous years’ ticket sales, Fill the Stadium for the Stollery surpassed its fundraising goal this year.

A total of $11,797 was raised for the Stollery Children’s Hospital Foundation.

“It was a perfect Saturday between watching the kids have a great time and the game. What a tremendous effort on behalf of the Stollery by the Police and Fire Rescue teams,” says Brian Shea, VP of Fundraising at the Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation. “They made the game exciting and also took time to make the Stollery honorary coaches, Keaton and Jaxon, feel special.”

“We also want to thank everyone who came out and helped to raise almost $12,000 this year for priority needs at the Stollery. Together you made it happen,” he adds.

This was the third year for the fundraiser, which saw EPS officers and EFR firefighters meet in a friendly competition of flag football. Edmonton Eskimos guest coaches Ricky Ray and Jason Maas provided coaching support this year.

The silent auction raised $1,005, with one generous bidder taking home $660 worth of prizes, such as a Canine Unit tour and a Day with the Bomb Squad.

One lucky winner took home $550 in the 50-50 raffle.

“We are all extremely happy that we surpassed our fundraising goal,” says Det. Ray Wood. “We are already gearing up for next year, to beat this year’s total.”

The EPS once again emerged victorious over Fire Rescue with a score of 34-19.

The fundraiser brought in $8,000 last year. With this year’s donations, the total raised so far is nearly $29,000.
