Crime Prevention

The Edmonton Police Service is known for community policing and violence reduction. A major part of this is preventing problems before they occur. This strategy of prevention, intervention, and suppression guides the EPS in its day-to-day activities.

As a cornerstone, Crime Prevention empowers the community to ensure they take necessary precautions to prevent crimes occurring to them or to the ones they love.

The EPS provides information and programs about Home and Property Safety, Personal & Family Safety, Community Safety and Neighbourhood Empowerment Teams.

Crime Prevention Feature Topic: Fraud Prevention

Fraud affects everyone regardless of age or ethnicity. Fraudsters develop elaborate stories and scenarios in an effort to make you believe they are legitimate.

The best protection against fraudsters is to arm yourself with knowledge. The more information you have on warning signs, the easier it will be to spot the scam before it's too late.

“As criminals fine-tune their skills, the number of fraud cases increases,” said Det. Linda Herczeg with Economic Crimes. “They like to catch us when our guard is down and keep our minds engaged so that we overlook the red flags. The first step to protecting ourselves is to verify the information we’re given – ask questions.”

If you would like to report a fraud/scam attempt, please contact Service Alberta or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre.

If you have been a victim of a scam, please call us at 780-423-4567.
