Southeast Division

Southeast Division is located at 104 Youville Drive and covers the eastern boundaries formerly patrolled by South Division officers. With the implementation of the new response model – District Team Policing – existing intra-divisional boundaries were redrawn and a formula was applied that aligned resources with workloads. On top of that, quality investigations, customer service, and a determined focus on concentrated crime areas were emphasized.

Southeast Division was created April 29, 2007, and as the second year anniversary nears, it is one of the safest in which to live, work, and play. In 2008, Chief Boyd challenged all divisions to achieve a 7% reduction in eight specific Crime Indicators. Southeast Division recorded a 15% reduction, including a 6% reduction for violent crimes. For 2009, Chief Boyd has called for a further 10% reduction of these same eight Crime Indicators. The target’s priority is reducing victimization, and there will also be a focus on youth issues, family violence, traffic safety, and quality of life. Some of these concerns are not directly related to the eight Crime Indicators, such as crime, disorder (graffiti, noisy parties), and traffic matters; however, Southeast Division is committed to addressing them as well.

Working in the Community

With your involvement and the help of other community partners, together we can achieve our collective goals. Strategically, a plan called Reaching-out: Policing for Prevention will help to identify community problems, assign them to officers, and reduce and/or eliminate the issue. Officers will be more visible in the community to share prevention information, learn about the community dynamics, create the dialogue of safety, and provide the best investigative services.

Southeast Division is fortunate to have two Neighbourhood Empowerment Teams, primarily located in Daly Grove and Pollard Meadows (District E3), and in the Lee Ridge and Millbourne communities (District E4). Their work provides a great foundation to replicate their practices in the Bonnie Doon and King Edward Park areas in 2009. N.E.T.’s primary focus is to identify social disorder and family distress issues, and work with service providers to support and improve these situations.

The men and women of Southeast Division are very excited about working even more closely with the community to increase their quality of life.
