School Traffic Safety

Members in the Traffic Safety Education Unit work with a number of key stakeholders: parents, children, City of Edmonton engineers, as well as Public and Catholic schools to educate the public about traffic safety in and around schools.

Activities members engage in:

  • Monitoring of traffic and enforcement
  • Monitoring AMA school patrols
  • Safety presentations
  • Working with city engineers to make the area safer and ensure traffic flow around schools, especially at the start and dismissal of classes.

Events members may participate in:

Walk the Talk – One day event in September held in conjunction with Alberta Transportation. The objective is to heighten awareness of pedestrian safety for elementary school children.

Back to School – This event is held on the first day of school in partnership with AMA. It raises public awareness that school is back in session and to encourage safety for both pedestrians and drivers. Some of the behaviours include: choosing safety over convenience, not parking in designated areas, speed, double parking and u-turns.

AMA School Safety Patrol PicnicTM – The EPS partners with the AMA. The objective is to raise awareness as it relates to pedestrian and driver safety and recognize the important role our partners in safety (The AMA school safety patrol volunteers) provide.

Trade shows (i.e. Edmonton Motorcycle show, Edmonton Motor Show, Mom, Pop and Tots Fair, Law Day, Indy Car Race, and Career Days).
