Edmonton Police Service

Dedicated to Protect, Proud to Serve

Deputy Chief Kevin Brezinski

Kevin Brezinski grew up in a small community in Saskatchewan, later graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in Psychology. Several of Kevin’s relatives were police officers which drew his attention to the profession. In 1992 he joined the Edmonton Police Service becoming a member of Recruit Class #80.

Kevin started in patrol in West Division, worked in Communications Section, and later in South Division. Early on, he displayed an interest in investigative work which has guided the rest of his career. He worked as an undercover operator, was an original member of the Gang Activity Suppression Team and later spent several years investigating organized crime while in Gang Unit and with the Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams. Kevin developed a strong reputation for his expertise in organized crime in Alberta and across Canada.

In 2012, Kevin was promoted to inspector in charge of the Major Crimes Branch, which included Homicide Section, Economic Crimes Section and Robbery Section. In 2014, Kevin was assigned to the Professional Standards Branch, which is where he was exposed to the inner workings of the organization. The role helped him gain a greater appreciation for the importance of police discipline and how it affects public confidence. During his tenure, great strides were made to complete investigations in a timely fashion and to streamline processes.

In 2016, Kevin was promoted to the Superintendent in charge of Criminal Investigations Division. Kevin is grateful to have had the opportunity to work with many talented people over the years and credits them with his success. He has worked with officers from various agencies including the RCMP, several municipal agencies across Canada, the DEA, US Secret Service and the FBI.

In March of 2017, Kevin was promoted to the Deputy Chief in charge of the Community Policing Bureau, which encompasses all of the patrol resources for the Edmonton Police Service. He feels that it is an absolute pleasure to work with the fine men and women of the EPS that work so hard to serve and protect the citizens of Edmonton.
