The manner of her death was considered suspicious and homicide detectives were called in to investigate. ]]> 18 Feb 2020 07:00:00 UT Leonardo DURAN IBANEZ https://www.edmontonpolice.ca/CrimeFiles/Homicides/2010/DURANIBANEZLeonardo Northwest Division patrol officers responded to a call for assistance near 97 Street and 119 Avenue on Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, where upon arrival they found a male lying unconscious on the sidewalk. <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>It was reported to police that two males were walking down 97 Street at approximately 3:20 a.m., Sunday, Nov. 13, 2016, when they were approached by four male and two female suspects. It is alleged that the suspects - not known to the complainants - attempted to start a fight with the two men, who ignored the suspects and continued to walk away.<br /> <br /> The suspects reportedly assaulted the men, repeatedly punching one of the men in the face, while pushing the other to the ground, before repeatedly kicking Leonard in the head. <br /> <br /> The suspects are believed to have fled the scene on foot, leaving Leonard in an unconscious state on the ground and the second male complainant with minor injuries.<br /> <br /> Paramedics arrived on scene and were able to revive Leonard, before transporting him to hospital, where he would later succumb to his injuries.<br /> <br /> The Medical Examiner confirmed that&nbsp;Leonard<strong><span> </span></strong>died as a result of injuries consistent with severe head trauma.</span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span><strong>Up to $40,000 reward for information.</strong></span></p> ]]> 25 May 2017 06:00:00 UT Omar Terrence ALBERT https://www.edmontonpolice.ca/CrimeFiles/Homicides/2010/ALBERTOmar EPS Northeast Division patrol officers responded to a home on McConachie Blvd. at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Oct. 4, 2016, on reports of a break and enter and aggravated assault. <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>Investigations revealed that the husband and wife, who were home at the time of the break in, were tied up, blindfolded and severely assaulted after demands were made for drugs and money. It was reported to police shortly after the break in that shots were fired in the residence. </span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>When officers arrived on scene they found a male, who appeared to have been shot, in the basement of the home.</span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>The male who had been shot was treated and taken to hospital by EMS, where he later passed away. </span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>A residence next door, which is known to police, is also being investigated as part of this file. Emergency Medical Services declared the man deceased at the scene. </span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>The first witness vehicle was seen in the area of Ozerna Road just before the shooting occurred. Police are seeking information on both of these vehicles and occupants.</span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>The second witness vehicle is dark-coloured car that was seen on Ozerna Road just after the shooting. It is reported the vehicle stopped one or two houses north of the scene and parked facing northbound on the east curb. Police believe one person exited the vehicle and walked in the direction of where the victim was found. Officers are looking to speak with this individual. </span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>&nbsp;</span></p> <p style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><span>Police are also looking to speak with a woman who was wearing a light-coloured hijab and was driving a cream-coloured van or SUV. The Malibu came into the Chapelle area and picked up a male from a home which was under construction at the time.</span></p> <p style="margin-bottom: 12pt;"><span style="color: black;">The male who was picked up from the home under construction is described as a middle-aged man in his mid-to-late 30s, believed to be of middle-eastern decent. He stands approximately 6&rsquo;0&rdquo; tall, with a slim build and was wearing white sneakers, blue jeans, a dark hoodie and a construction vest at the time. The first suspect is described as a 6&rsquo;2&rdquo; olive-skinned male in his mid-to-late 20&rsquo;s, approximately 250 lbs, husky build, with long black hair.
