EPS’ position on COVID-19 vaccinations for employees

While the EPS’ vaccination rate is relatively high, the  current circumstances in Alberta warrant continued measures to address COVID-19 risk. As such, the EPS is implementing protocols (effective Monday, October 18, 2021)  to ensure we are providing a safe environment for our employees and the citizens we serve.

To address that risk, while respecting our employees’ privacy and ability to choose what is right for them, all EPS employees will have to choose one of the following three options:

• Indicate that they are fully vaccinated and that it has been more than 14 days since they received two doses of a Health Canada approved COVID-19 vaccine;

• Submit to rapid testing for COVID-19 at the employee’s expense (the details and frequency of which will be provided upon development of the policy prior to effective date) and abide by additional restrictions;

• Go on a leave without pay pending compliance with either of the above options or until circumstances change such that EPS amends these protocols.

Employees who cannot be vaccinated or submit to rapid testing as a result of a protected characteristic (e.g., disability, religious beliefs) will be reasonably accommodated on an individualized basis. EPS volunteers and contractors will also be required to either indicate they have been fully vaccinated or submit to rapid testing to engage in their duties.
