The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has charged one man in relation to multiple arsons in 2021-22.

Since August 2021, the EPS has been investigating a rash of arsons in the Alberta Avenue area. Throughout the course of this complex investigation, officers identified 44 separate arsons that are believed to be related.

On Wednesday, Jun. 29, 2022 Darcy Willier, 38 was arrested and charged with arson (x7), arson with disregard for human life (x2) as well as several firearms-related charges

The investigation continues, and further charges may be forthcoming.

“These arsons caused a great deal of concern and traumatized many in the community,” says Acting Staff Sergeant David Graham. “The investigation has proven to be very complex and lengthy, involving multiple people of interest connected to one another through properties in the Alberta Avenue area. We appreciate the community’s patience while we took the time necessary to build a robust investigation leading to the arrest of the prime suspect in this large file.”
