For Immediate Release: 08-Jan-2025 @ 3:44 PM
MRU #: TR25001

A 41-year-old woman who was critically injured in a collision on Yellowhead Trail earlier this month has passed away.

On Wednesday Jan. 1, 2025, at approximately 4:15 a.m., police responded to a collision in the area of Yellowhead Trail and 66 Street.

It was reported that the 41-year-old male driver of a Toyota Rav 4 was traveling northbound on 66 Street and entered the intersection to make a left turn onto westbound Yellowhead Trail.  At the same time a Jeep Compass operated by a 41-year-old female was traveling eastbound on Yellowhead Trail when it entered the intersection at 66 Street against the red light at a high rate of speed, and collided with the Toyota.

EMS responded and transported the driver of the Jeep to hospital with life threatening injuries. She was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision.

The driver of the Toyota was also transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

On Jan. 6, 2025, the 41-year-old female driver of the Jeep succumbed to her injuries in hospital. Alcohol and speed on the part of the Jeep’s driver are thought to be factors in the collision
