Charges laid in central Edmonton homicide

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Homicide Section has charged a male in the murder of a 42-year-old man found deceased in central Edmonton last month.

On Oct. 8, 2025, at approximately 8:50 p.m., Edmonton Police Service Downtown Division patrol officers responded to reports of gun shots in the area of 107 Avenue and 109 Street. Upon arrival, they located an injured 42-year-old male outside of a residence and immediately administered life-saving measures. Unfortunately, he was pronounced deceased on scene.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner’s Office completed an autopsy on Oct. 9, 2025, and determined that Andrew Donald McCabe, 42, died of a gunshot wound and the manner of death is homicide.

On Oct. 18, 2025, police charged Gulied Ahmed Umar, 20, with second degree murder.
