Arrest made in unprovoked LRT assault

Edmonton Police arrested the male involved in a violent unprovoked assault on a senior that occurred at the Jubilee LRT Station on Monday, April 25, 2022.

On Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at approximately 3:00 p.m., Edmonton Transit Peace Officers responded to the report of an assault with a weapon at Churchill LRT Station. It was reported that a 53-year-old male had been threatened with a weapon, and the incident was captured by surveillance within the LRT station. When Peace Officers arrived, they located the suspect, Kendall Raine, 20.

Transit Peace Officers recognized Raine as the male that was responsible for the attack on the 78-year-old woman at the Jubilee LRT Station the previous evening. As a result, police were contacted, and Raine was taken into custody for both incidents.

Raine has since been charged with assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon for the incident at Churchill LRT Station on Tuesday, April 26, 2022. He is also facing a charge of aggravated assault for the Jubilee LRT Station incident that occurred Monday, April 25, 2022.

Background:

On Monday, April 25, 2022, at approximately 8:20 p.m., an elderly female was standing waiting for the train at the Jubilee LRT station located at 8300 114 Street. It was reported that an unknown male unexpectedly ran up and pushed the female off the platform onto the LRT tracks. The elderly female suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital by paramedics. The female and the male suspect were not known to one another.
