For Immediate Release: 02-Dec-2022 @ 11:53 AM
MRU #: H22R034

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is investigating the suspicious death of a male who was assaulted earlier this month.

At approximately 12:30 p.m. on Nov. 28, 2022, hospital staff contacted police after an injured male had been transported to hospital by EMS that morning. The male had been located unresponsive outside the Coliseum LRT station just before 9:30 a.m. He later died in hospital on Nov. 30, 2022.

Prior to this incident, on Nov. 19, 2022, the male had been the victim of an assault that occurred in an encampment in the area of 100 Street and 105A Avenue. At that time, he was taken to hospital and treated for head injuries. A 40-year-old male was charged in relation to the assault.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on the deceased, Calvin Ross Moosewah, 46, on Dec. 1, 2022. The cause and manner of death are pending further testing. The death has been deemed suspicious, and Homicide Section is leading the investigation.

Moosewah primarily resided in encampments in and around the downtown core. Investigators would like to speak with anyone who may have information on his whereabouts and activities between Nov. 19 and Nov. 28, 2022.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
