MRU #: 24R014-1

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has arrested a male who reportedly threw a large metal object from a Whitemud Drive overpass.

On Mar. 6, 2024, it was reported to police that a large metal object was thrown from the Whitemud overpass at 53 Avenue onto a moving vehicle. The projectile reportedly smashed through the vehicle’s windshield and struck an adult female passenger, who was travelling in the rear seat next to her infant child. The female was taken to hospital and treated for a serious, non-life-threatening injury.

Police were able to identify the accused in the incident as Getnet Teklay, 34. On Mar. 7, 2024, Teklay was arrested and charged with mischief endangering life, aggravated assault and assault with a weapon.

Police are investigating whether the event is linked to the previous nine incidents involving objects thrown off the Whitemud overpass onto moving vehicles.
