For Immediate Release: 27-May-2022 @ 2:35 PM
MRU #: 22R054

The Edmonton Police Service has arrested a 19-year-old man following a shooting in downtown Edmonton yesterday evening.

At approximately 11:15 p.m. on Thursday, May 26, 2022, police responded to the report of a shooting in the area of 103 Street and 103 Avenue. While conducting traffic control for the hockey game, EPS members  witnessed a male discharge a firearm multiple times at an unidentified male. Two males then reportedly attempted to flee the area on foot but were quickly pursued by officers and taken into custody moments later in the area of 103A Street and 103 Avenue. A firearm was located on the ground nearby, and following a search incident to arrest, ammunition and drugs were also located on one of the arrested males.

No injuries were reported by any citizens who were in the area following the hockey game. Officers continue to search for the unidentified male thought to be the target of the shooting.

A 19-year-old male remains in police custody at this time and is facing multiple charges. The other male has since been released without charges.

Investigators have determined the recovered firearm was stolen. This event is not believed to be linked to the hockey game.

Detectives with the EPS Downtown Investigative Response Team (IRT) continue to investigate and are asking anyone with information about the unidentified male to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
