Police seek public's assistance identifying suspects in hate-motivated crime

For Immediate Release: 12-Apr-2024 @ 4:15 PM
MRU #: 24R031

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is seeking the public’s assistance identifying three suspects who removed and damaged a pride flag displayed outside of a central Edmonton business.

At approximately 10:54 p.m. on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, two males and a female were walking southbound on 103 Street toward 102 Avenue when they stopped in front of Evolution Wonderlounge and ripped down the pride flag and damaged the pole attached to the front of the business. The suspects then threw the flag into a nearby garbage can and left the scene on foot.

As officers believe the removal of the flag was an act targeting the 2SLGBTQ+ community, the EPS Hate Crimes Unit is investigating.

Police are circulating security footage from the area in the hopes that someone may be able to identify the suspects.

Anyone who can identify these suspects is asked to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250.
