Edmonton man charged in connection to historical sexual assaults against female

For Immediate Release: 02-Nov-2021 @ 3:41 PM
MRU #: SA21R006

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has charged a 49-year-old man in connection to multiple sexual assaults against a female complainant that reportedly took place in the early 2000s.

In August 2021, the EPS commenced an investigation into the report of multiple historical sexual assaults. It was reported that over a period of 18 months, between March 2006 and September 2007, Patrick Charles Howarth initiated a relationship with and sexually assaulted a 16-year-old female on multiple occasions. During that time, Howarth was contracted as an actor and fight captain with the Citadel Theatre from March until June of 2006 specifically. He was also contracted in an instructional role within the Department of Drama at the University of Alberta from January to March 2007. He would have been in his mid 30s.

The EPS arrested Howarth without incident on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2021 and charged him with sexual assault and sexual exploitation.

Given Howarth’s former employment and the allegations of sexual assault against a 16-year-old, investigators believe there may be additional complainants. As such, the EPS is releasing a photo of Howarth.

Accused: Patrick Charles Howarth, 49

The EPS encourages any other complainants or anyone with information regarding these incidents to contact the EPS at 780-423-4567 or #377 from a mobile phone. Anonymous information can also be submitted to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.p3tips.com/250
