Homicide suspect in custody

For Immediate Release: 26-Nov-2021 @ 3:50 PM
MRU #: H21R042-2

The male suspect wanted in relation to a northeast Edmonton homicide earlier this week is now in police custody.

Donny Nathan Meeches, 31, turned himself in to police early Friday morning, Nov. 26, 2021, following a media release notifying the public of a Canada-wide warrant for his arrest.

Meeches has since been formally charged with second-degree murder in the death of a 31-year-old woman at a residence in northeast Edmonton on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021.

The EPS would like to thank the media and the public for their assistance.

There is no additional information available for release at this time.

At approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 21, 2021, Northeast Division officers were called to the report of an injured female at a residence in the area of 139 Avenue and 35 Street. Upon arrival, officers located the female and provided first aid; however, she succumbed to injuries at the scene.

An autopsy was completed by the Edmonton Medical Examiner’s office on Thursday, Nov. 25, 2021, and confirmed the 31-year-old woman’s death was a homicide. The cause of death continues to be withheld for investigative reasons. As the woman’s 11-year-old son was present at the time of her death, her name is being withheld to protect his privacy during this difficult time.
