Autopsy complete in southeast suspicious death

On Wednesday, July 29, 2020, the Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on a male who died in southeast Edmonton on Sunday, July 26, 2020. 

The deceased has been identified as Gabriel Sunshine, 34. The cause and manner of death remain undetermined at this time.

A person of interest is no longer in custody. Homicide Section continues to investigate.

Investigators are interested in speaking with anyone who was in the immediate area at the time and may have information that would assist this investigation. At approximately 7:21 p.m., Sunday, July 26, 2020, Southeast Division officers were called to the report of disturbance at a residence in the area of 16 Avenue and 42 Street. Upon arrival, officers found a male believed to be in his 30s suffering from life-threatening injuries.

EMS responded and treated the injured male; however, he succumbed to his injuries on scene.

A person of interest was taken into custody at the time.
