Police investigate traffic fatality on Calgary Trail

For Immediate Release: 11-Aug-2019 @ 9:32 PM
MRU #: TR19R024

Officers from the EPS’ Major Collision Investigation Section continue to investigate a single-vehicle fatal collision that took place this afternoon.

At approximately 3:30 p.m. today, Sunday, August 11, 2019, police were called to the scene of a collision on Calgary Trail and 41 Avenue SW. Traffic Section investigators believe a 2005 Ford Escape, operated by a 74-year-old male, was travelling southbound on Calgary Trail, approaching the 41 Avenue SW underpass in the far left lane, when the male lost control of the vehicle. It is believed the Ford Escape veered off the road and struck a support pillar of the overpass. The 74-year-old succumbed to his injuries on scene.

Neither speed nor impairment are considered factors in this collision and no other motorists were involved. Investigators believe the deceased may have experienced a medical episode behind the wheel and continue to investigate.
