For Immediate Release: 14-Jan-2022 @ 4:51 PM
MRU #: 22R001

The Edmonton Police Service has arrested a 39-year-old male wanted in connection to a stolen vehicle criminal flight in Valleyview, AB, in July 2021, wherein the suspect allegedly fired gunshots at RCMP members.

At approximately 11:45 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 13, 2022, EPS West Branch patrol members responded to a weapons complaint at a residence on Lakeview Road. Members quickly identified the suspect and discovered that he had warrants for a July criminal flight and shooting offence in Valleyview.

After leaving the west-side home, Air 1 quickly located the suspect vehicle at a walk-up address near 116 Avenue and 124 Street. Members of the EPS Targeted Response to Auto-theft Prevention team (TRAP) subsequently converged on the west-end address, and witnessed the suspect leave the address in a different vehicle as a passenger.

EPS Tactical members responded to the area, conducted a traffic stop and took the suspect into custody without incident. EPS members recovered a pair of imitation firearms within the stolen vehicle, during the investigation.

Archie Papastesis, 39, is facing multiple charges including possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of a controlled substance (CDSA) and breach of conditions (x5).
