Pedestrian killed in train collision https://www.edmontonpolice.ca/News/MediaReleases/PedestrianvtrainJuly3 The woman involved in the serious collision between a train and pedestrian in south Edmonton has since passed away <p><span>On Thursday, June 26, 2025, around 5:45 a.m. the Edmonton Police Service (EPS) was called to a collision involving a CP Rail train and a pedestrian. It happened south of 51 Avenue between 99 Street and Gateway Boulevard.</span></p> <p><span>A 33-year-old female was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries where she later passed away. The Major Collision Investigations Section continues to investigate and no charges have been laid at this time.</span></p> 03 Jul 2025 20:00:00 UT Police arrest three repeat property crime and firearm offenders https://www.edmontonpolice.ca/News/MediaReleases/July3_recoveredCadillacandKia Thanks to a cross agency and internal collaboration between multiple EPS units, police apprehended three suspects and recovered two stolen vehicles in one evening last week. <p><span>On June 25, 2025, EPS <strong>Targeted Response to Auto Theft Prevention </strong>(TRAP) team located a stolen Cadillac Escalade parked at a residence in the area of 90 Street and 134 Avenue. At approximately 9:30 p.m., two individuals entered the stolen vehicle and drove away. Police followed at a safe distance. Soon after, the stolen Cadillac Escalade met a KIA Sportage in a nearby alley. Police noted that the KIA was also reported stolen, and was the same vehicle reportedly used in a personal robbery involving a firearm earlier in the evening.</span></p> <p><span>EPS TRAP, Air1 and the Canine Unit continued to monitor both vehicles through the city unit they eventually left Edmonton, at which point the RCMP Real Time Operations Centre (RTOC), and Redwater detachment joined the investigation.</span></p> <p><span>Upon noticing police, the driver of the KIA was seen discarding a shotgun out of the driver's window before exiting the KIA and entering the Cadillac Escalade. The shotgun was later determined to have been used in the personal robbery.</span></p> <p><span>After a short pursuit, EPS Tactical Units successfully apprehended all three occupants when the Cadillac became lodged in a bog near Lily Lake, Alberta.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Dylan Brazeau</span><em><span>, </span></em><span>22</span></strong><span>, driver of the stolen Cadillac, has been charged with <em>possession of stolen property over $5000</em>, <em>operating a motor vehicle while prohibited, breaching conditions of release (x3), and failure to comply with probation orders.</em></span></p> <p><strong><span>S</span><span>tar Lee Rose Breland</span><em><span>, 22, </span></em></strong><span>was charged with: <em>possession of stolen property over $5000 </em>and<em> breaching conditions of release (x2)</em></span></p> <p><strong><span>Collin Ray McDonald, 33</span><em><span>,</span></em></strong><span> driver of the stolen KIA, is facing 14 charges including <em>robbery with a firearm</em>, <em>possession of stolen property over $5000, </em>and breaching numerous conditions.<em>&nbsp;&nbsp;</em></span></p> <p style="margin-bottom: 8pt; line-height: 115%;"><span style="line-height: 115%;">All three accused are known to police.</span></p> <span>“Through the combined efforts of several EPS units and the RCMP, investigators were able to identify suspects linked to multiple offences and recover stolen property,” said Staff Sergeant Travis Kerr with EPS </span><span>TRAP</span><span>, “This investigation demonstrates how coordinated police work across agencies can lead to meaningful results and help keep our communities safe."</span> 03 Jul 2025 19:30:00 UT Police release video footage, continue to seek tips after fatal 2024 collision https://www.edmontonpolice.ca/News/MediaReleases/FatalAnnivJuly3 <p><span>The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) is releasing video footage of a suspect vehicle involved in the fatal collision that took the life of a 13-year-old male cyclist last year.<br /> <br /> </span><span>At approximately 4:05 a.m. on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, Southeast Branch patrol officers were called to assist EMS regarding a hit-and-run collision involving a young cyclist and a vehicle at 48 Street and 34 Avenue. EMS treated the male on scene; however, he succumbed to his injuries a short time later.</span></p> <p><span> EPS Major Collision Investigations Section (MCIS) took over the investigation and determined the collision occurred in the eastbound lanes of 34 Avenue east of 48 Street. A suspect vehicle, which incurred damage to its front end and driver side, was also identified at the time </span><span style="color: black;">as a blue 2017 Mazda 3 sedan. He has long brown hair and brown eyes. She remains in hospital in critical condition. Major Collision Investigations Section is leading the investigation.</span></p> 27 Jun 2025 17:44:51 UT Autopsy complete in Chappelle death https://www.edmontonpolice.ca/News/MediaReleases/ChappelleAutopsyJune26 An autopsy is complete in a suspicious death that took place in Edmonton’s Chappelle neighbourhood earlier this week. <p><span>On Monday, June 23, 2025, at approximately 8:30 a.m., the EPS responded to reports of an injured female inside a residence in the area of Charles Bay and Charles Way. Upon arrival, police located a female in medical distress. EMS administered life-saving measures to the injured female; however, she was pronounced deceased on scene. </span></p> <p><span>On Thursday, June 26, 2025, the Edmonton Medical Examiner&rsquo;s Office completed an autopsy on <strong>Ramona Bowen, 45, </strong>and determined that the cause of death was sharp force trauma, and the manner of death was homicide.</span></p> <p><span>Police have since charged <strong>Matthew Harper, 41,</strong> with <em>second degree murder</em>. The accused is known to the victim.&nbsp; </span></p> 26 Jun 2025 21:35:00 UT Soccer coach charged with sexual assault https://www.edmontonpolice.ca/News/MediaReleases/SexualAssaultJune25 The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) has charged a 30-year-old woman in connection to a sexual assault involving a youth. <p><span>In June 2025, the EPS was contacted regarding a relationship between a youth and their adult soccer coach that reportedly began late last year when the youth was 15-years old. </span></p> <p><span>On Wednesday, June 25, 2025, <strong>Vanessa Young, 30,</strong> was charged with <em>sexual assault, sexual interference, sexual exploitation, luring a child under 18, and luring a child under 16.</em></span></p> <p><span>The youth is receiving support through the Zebra Child &amp; Youth Advocacy Centre.</span></p> <p><span>Investigators have concerns there may be more complainants. The EPS can also provide appropriate supports. </span></p> 25 Jun 2025 22:15:00 UT Police lay charges in central Edmonton homicide https://www.edmontonpolice.ca/News/MediaReleases/June25_Homicide Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Homicide Section detectives have laid charges in relation to the death of a man that took place in central Edmonton last week.&nbsp; <p><span>On Thursday, June 19, 2025, at approximately 2:15 p.m. Downtown Branch Patrol responded to reports of an assault inside a residence in the area of 95 Street and 106 Avenue. When police arrived, they located an injured 59-year-old male. He was treated and transported by EMS to hospital with life-threatening injuries. A 42-year-old male was located nearby and charged with <em>aggravated assault</em>. </span></p> <p><span>Sadly, on Sunday, June 22, the injured male succumbed to his injuries.</span></p> <p><span>The Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, and determined the deceased, <strong>Robert Gladue, 59</strong>, died of blunt force trauma.
