Sexual Assault

The mandate of the Sexual Assault Section is to investigate sexual assaults involving complainants who are 16 years of age or older at the time of reporting who are complainants of crimes that fall into at least one of the following categories;

  • aggravated sexual assaults
  • sexual assaults with a weapon or causing bodily harm
  • sexual assaults involving a serial offender or threats to a third party
  • sexual offences where a Forensic Evidence Collection Kit has been approved by a member of the Sexual Assault Section
  • sexual assaults occurring in Edmonton that are reported by an outside police agency
  • sexual assaults that have a multi-jurisdictional component
  • historical sexual assaults where the complainant is 14 years or over at the time of the report

Each investigation is conducted with professionalism, thoroughness, and sensitivity.

Sexual Assault Section investigators are also available to consult on all other sexual assault files, which are investigated by other areas of the Edmonton Police Service


The Edmonton Police Service Sexual Assault Section is proud to participate in the Sexual Assault Network of Edmonton. There is a close working relation with the Sexual Assault Centre of Edmonton (SACE), the Sexual Assault Centre - University of Alberta, Capital Health – Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) and the Crown Prosecutors office.
