How To Request Information

A member of the public may obtain records from the Edmonton Police Service by making requests to either the Correspondence Unit or to the FOIPP Unit.

EPS Correspondence Unit

The EPS Correspondence Unit is responsible for the routine disclosure of police records and collision reports to insurance companies, law firms, members of the public, and other provincial and federal agencies and programs.

You may submit a personal request for EPS records through Correspondence Unit if:

  • You are a named participant on the occurrence (police) file
  • All investigations on the file have been concluded, and
  • There are no outstanding criminal charges or violation tickets in relation to the occurrence file OR all charges and violation tickets have already been disposed of through the normal court process.

Requests for Police or Collision Reports can be made in the following ways:

  1. In Person: Visit one of the below locations with payment and two (2) pieces of government issued identification, one of which must be photo identification.

    Monday - Wednesday: 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Thursday: 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
    Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
    Accepted Payment: Debit, cash, credit card, certified cheque or money order.

  2. By Mail: Please include payment and a copy of two (2) pieces of government issued identification, one of which must be photo identification and mail to:

FEES & PROCESSING TIMES

EPS Correspondence Unit releases the following free of charge:

  • Copy of your witness statement
  • “Driver’s copy” of a collision report, if you are named
  • Copy of your Certificate of Analysis

Standard Requests for Police & Collision Reports or Confirmation Letters                                                           $ 52.50 per file (*including GST)
Processing Time on Standard requests is 10-15 business days. This may vary depending upon the availability of resources.

Confirmation Letters are provided when records are not fully accessible. Additional information may be available at the conclusion of all prosecutorial proceedings and, upon request, will be provided free of charge.    

RUSH Requests                                               $157.50 per file (*including GST)
Correspondence Unit offers RUSH service on all records available for release through Routine Disclosure.
Processing Time on RUSH requests is 1-2 business days from the time Correspondence Unit receives the request.

Additional (File) Search fee                          $26.25 per file (*including GST)
Correspondence Unit applies the additional fee to all requests that are submitted with incorrect or missing file numbers.
We recommend contacting COU for assistance in locating, or to verify your file number prior to submitting a request.

Specialized (Major Collision) Reports
Correspondence Unit provides routine access to investigative reports on Major Collision files. The availability and cost of these reports will be identified upon the receipt of your written request.

*Certified cheques and Money Orders should be made payable to "The City of Edmonton".
