Cindy Calvez Westra

Cindy Calvez Westra is a registered psychologist with the College of Alberta Psychologists. Throughout her life she has had an interest in the work that first responders do, and although that career was not a fit for her, she has enjoyed working alongside first responders in various capacities. Cindy’s work with Victim Services and the provision of Critical Incident Stress Debriefings for Volunteer Firefighters has led to her passion for supporting first responders in recovering from work-related trauma. As a psychologist she has trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART), which are both evidence-based approaches to effectively reduce the negative symptoms resulting from stressful events such as trauma.

Since 2020 she has been working with first responders such as Police, Fire, Military Members, Veterans and their families, providing treatment for concerns such as post-traumatic stress, anxiety, depression, life transitions, grief and loss.
