Dial 911 only for emergencies, such as life-threatening situations or crimes in progress. When calling, clearly state the emergency and your location.


Sexual Assault

Report a Sexual Assault here

Definition: Any sexual contact where consent is not given, consent is revoked, or you are unable to consent due to incapacitation.

Examples: Touched in a sexual manner by a stranger (i.e. on a bus, in a pool), or by a known person (i.e. partner, co-worker), forced sexual intercourse or acts.
Hate motivated incident

The Edmonton Police Service Online Reporting allows you to submit a hate motivated incident report immediately.

Hate impacts everyone. When a crime or incident motivated by hate occurs, it hurts not only the victim but the whole community. EPS Hate Crimes investigators want to know about crimes AND incidents. Report them so we can assist.

You should NOT file an online report if any of the following is true:

  • You are in immediate danger – if so, call 9-1-1.
  • There is evidence that may be lost if not collected immediately such as but not limited to blood, DNA, clothes, video, or any item related to the incident. Please call 780-423-4567 to file a report.
  • The incident reported did not happen in Edmonton. Please contact the police service in the city where the incident happened to file a report.

Report a Hate Motivated Incident here.

Identifiable Group Definition: means any section of the public based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression, or on any other similar factor.

Hate Motivated Crime Definition: it is a crime committed against a person or property and evidence that the crime was motivated in whole or part by the suspect’s hate, bias or prejudice towards an identifiable group based on real or perceived colour, race, religion, national or ethnic origin, age, sex, sexual identity, gender identity or expression, mental or physical disability, or any other similar factor. (e.g. assault, mischief)

Hate Motivated Incident Definition: it is a non-criminal action committed against a person or property motivated in whole or in part by hate bias or prejudice towards an identifiable group based on real or perceived colour, race, religion, national or ethnic origin, age, sex, sexual identity, gender identity or expression, mental or physical disability, or any other similar factor. (e.g. comments such as “Go back to your country”, racial slurs or other derogatory remarks about being part of an identifiable group)

Once you complete your online report the following will occur:

  • You will see the words, ”Your online police report has been submitted”. This indicates that your report was successfully submitted.
  • You will receive an email with a file number.
  • All Hate Motivated Incidents filed using the Online Reporting System will be reviewed by Hate Crime Investigators.
  • If the report you are submitting initiates a police investigation, you may be contacted by an investigator from the Hate Crimes Unit.

Victim Support – Crime and Trauma-Informed Support Services

In our community, citizens live with the fundamental expectation that they will not be victimized. This belief is based on the safety and security provided by law. On occasion, and regardless of best efforts, people are affected by crime and/or trauma. Crime and Trauma-Informed Support Services (CTSS) can provide you with the information you need in order to make informed decisions. Their trained staff and volunteers can assist you with emotional support, referrals to Community Supports and many more. Break and Enter

Break and Enter (Detached Garage/Shed/Fenced Compound)

Definition: Someone entered or tried to enter your detached garage / shed / fenced compound without your permission. Property may or may not have been stolen.
Examples: Detached garage door kicked in and tools, bikes, etc. may have been stolen.
Damage to Property

Damage to Property

Definition: Someone has vandalized or defaced your property.
Examples: Rock thrown through a house window, smashed exterior light on house
Damage to Vehicle

Damage to Vehicle

Definition: Someone has vandalized or defaced your vehicle.
Examples: Slashed tires; keyed exterior of vehicle
Lost Property

Lost Property

Definition: Your possessions are lost or missing.
Theft (under $5,000)

Theft under $5,000

Definition: Something you or your business owns is taken without your consent. Lost property is not a theft. If someone entered your closed shed, fenced compound or detached garage, please use the Break and Enter report type above. 
Examples: Bike stolen out of your yard; cell phone stolen from a locker
Theft from vehicle (under $5,000)

Theft from Vehicle, under $5,000

Definition: Property was taken from your vehicle without your permission (excluding license plates).
Examples: Stereo, auto accessories, vehicle parts stolen from a vehicle
