Melissa St. Denis MSW, RSW

Melissa completed her Master’s Degree in Social Work with a Clinical Specialization at the University of Calgary in 2009 and has been working in a clinical capacity since. She supported actively serving Canadian Armed Forces members at the on-base clinic at CFB Edmonton for 14 years, along with veterans, first responders (EPS, Edmonton Fire, RCMP and Paramedics), and the general public in her private practice in St. Albert.

Melissa has received specialized training in several gold-standard evidence-based treatments including Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Prolonged Exposure, Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and Cognitive Behavioural Conjoint Therapy for PTSD and other traumas, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), and Level-2 training in the Gottman Method Couples Therapy. Melissa also has advance training in CBT targeting depression, anxiety disorders, and for suicide prevention. She has a keen interest in supporting individuals as they work through a variety of psychosocial concerns, including adjustment to many of life’s transitions, relationship strain, interpersonal or occupational challenges, stress management, and grief.

Melissa prides herself on establishing a collaborative, supportive, non-judgemental therapeutic alliance where clear goals can be identified and positive change can occur. She understands that each individual comes to her office in and from a different place. She recognizes the importance in considering the impact her client’s environment has on them, from their immediate family, to their childhood and upbringing, or their work, religion or culture. She strives to highlight people’s strengths, and empower them to achieve the goals they set out for themselves. Melissa is flexible in her approach with clients, and given her background in various treatment modalities she will work hard to ensure the ‘right fit’ for each individual is established.
