“Looking into the future, I’m encouraged by the winds of change that I’ve seen.”
That was the sentiment expressed by Annah Jaricha of Impact and Evaluation Section at the second annual Black History Month Showcase.
The event brought together EPS employees and members of the community to celebrate Black excellence in Edmonton and Canada.
The event was held at Northwest Campus on February 21st, and featured emcee Nigel Williams, a local singer and podcaster, and musician Danielle George.
It was, in the words of Chief Operating Officer Enyinnah Okere, a time to “observe and celebrate the unique history, achievements, and contributions of Black Canadians.”
Okere thanked attendees for sharing their voices, and for “contributing to our police service, and for helping to create a safer and more vibrant city for everyone.”
Sworn and civilian employees, EPS leadership, and members of the Chief’s Community Council, enjoyed traditional food and music.
The event was hosted by Community Relations Section (CRS) and Equity, Inclusion and Human Rights Branch (EIHR) in partnership with the Racial Equity Employee Resource Group (REERG).
