
CPTED, pronounced ‘sep-ted’, is a multi-disciplinary approach to crime prevention that uses urban and architectural design and the management of built and natural environments. CPTED strategies aim to reduce victimization, deter offender decisions that precede criminal acts, and build a sense of community among citizens while reducing, and minimizing the fear of, crime.
EPS members now make up 50 per cent of the six ICA accredited practitioners in Canada. The Service is also home to the only accredited course in Canada — and was the first police service in the world to earn the certification in January.
