The last Sunday of September is always a somber occasion as colleagues, friends and family reflect on the lives of the fallen officers who made the ultimate sacrifice. However, this year’s Police and Peace Officer Memorial seemed to strike a deeper tone following the loss of EPS Constables Brett Ryan and Travis Jordan, and RCMP Constable Harvinder Dhami.
As protocol dictates, the officers’ names were engraved on doves, and added to the monument. This year, the names were placed close together. A symbolic act so the officers are remembered together forever on the Pillar of Strength.
“Time is the only thing that heals, but it’s important that time also contain the memories of those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice,” said Police Chief Dale McFee.
