Firearm/Resist Arrest

At 6 p.m. on Jan. 16, officers responded to a call regarding a man with a firearm at a shopping centre at 109 Street and the Kingsway. It was reported to police that the handle of a firearm was sticking out of the suspect’s waistband. Officers confronted the suspect when he exited a nearby fast food restaurant and brought him into custody. They found the weapon to be an imitation firearm and the suspect is now facing charges. 

Excessive Speed

At 8:20 a.m. on Jan. 20, officers observed a sedan travelling at 163 km/h in a marked 90 km/h zone eastbound on Yellowhead Trail near 170 Street. The car was stopped about 100 metres from a construction zone where the speed limit drops to 60 km/h. The driver was ticketed for not producing his driver’s licence and was issued a mandatory court summons.

Weapons

On Jan. 20, police responded to multiple 911 calls about a man carrying a hammer and a sword and entering businesses in the area of 50 Street and 44 Avenue. Police arrested the suspect at a nearby gas station. The suspect faces charges including assault with a weapon and resist arrest

Aggravated Assault

At 9 a.m. on Jan. 22, officers responded to an assault at a social services agency at 96 Street and 106A Avenue. It was reported to police that two men were arguing outside the building when one stabbed the other. A nurse at the centre provided medical aid until paramedics arrived and brought the victim to hospital with a non-life-threatening injury. The stabbing was captured on video, police continue to investigate.
