At approximately 3 a.m. on Dec. 9, 2020, police responded to the report of a body found in a townhome complex in the area of 34 Avenue and 58 Street. Upon arrival, police located the deceased male inside the residence and determined the death to be suspicious.
On Dec. 10, 2020, the Edmonton Medical Examiner confirmed Rauf Abdu Muzero, 20, died as a result of a homicide. The cause of death, which was withheld at the time for investigative reasons, was blunt force trauma.
On May 6, 2025, warrants were issued for the arrests of Amiir Hussen, 27, Mohammad Omar Ali, 26, Andrew Barnett, 26, and Zakaria Ahmed, 28.
On May 12, 2025, Ahmed and Barnett were arrested and charged with second degree murder. On May 14, 2025, Omar Ali was arrested, and warrants were issued for Hussen, who was in police custody in Saskatchewan for an unrelated matter. Both Omar Ali and Hussen were charged with manslaughter, unlawful confinement, assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, extortion, attempted kidnapping and several firearm offences. Hussen has since been transferred to Edmonton from Saskatchewan.
Police are not seeking any other suspects in relation to this homicide.
