Charges laid in 2024 homicide

One man has been charged in a February 2024 homicide that took place in southwest Edmonton.

At approximately 6 p.m. on Feb. 26, 2024, police responded to multiple reports of gunshots heard in the area of 106 Street and 74 Avenue. Officers searched the area, but did not locate anything suspicious. At approximately 11:20 p.m., officers responded to a residence in that same area on the report of a deceased male. Upon arrival, police and paramedics located 34-year-old Ozan Budak deceased.

An autopsy conducted on Feb. 29, 2024 determined Budak’s cause of death to be gunshot wounds, and the manner of death was homicide.

Arthur Wayne Penner, 36, has now been charged with second degree murder in Budak’s death. He is currently remanded in custody. His next court date is scheduled for Oct. 23, 2025.
