On Sunday, April 6, 2025, at approximately 10 p.m. police responded to reports of gunshots in the area of 66 Street and 38 Avenue. Upon arrival, police located an injured 52-year-old male who was declared deceased on scene by EMS.
The Edmonton Medical Examiner completed an autopsy on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, and determined that, Darrell Demchuk, 52, died of gunshot wounds. The manner of death is homicide.
“We know there were a significant number of pedestrians and vehicular traffic in the area at the time of the shooting,” says Staff Sergeant Colin Leathem with the EPS’ Homicide Section. “We would really like to speak with anyone who was present as they may have important information.”
Investigators are also releasing a stock image of the suspect vehicle believe to be involved in the shooting. A blue 2016 Honda Pilot was observed in the area of 23 Avenue and 66 Street just before 10 p.m. and was subsequently seen travelling westbound on 38 Avenue after the shooting.

Homicide investigators also continue to seek dash camera or home security camera footage from the area between the hours of 9 p.m. and 11 p.m. on Sunday, April 6, 2025.
