Major Collision officers investigate fatal collision, seek dash cam footage

Edmonton Police Service Major Collision Investigation Section (MCIS) officers are investigating a fatal collision that occurred this afternoon.

At approximately 3:16 p.m., today, Monday, Sept. 23, 2024, West Branch patrol officers were dispatched to the report of a collision involving a motorcycle on Groat Road. Reportedly a 2015 Yamaha R3 motorcycle was northbound on Groat Road when it struck the centre median, launching the rider into the southbound lanes where he struck the front of a truck travelling southbound.

The 21-year-old male rider of the motorcycle was transported to hospital by EMS where he succumbed to his injuries.

It is believed that speed was a factor in this collision. MCIS continues to investigate.
