Autopsy completed and charges laid in central Edmonton homicide

The Edmonton Police Service has laid charges in the death of a man in central Edmonton.

At approximately 9:40 p.m. on Thursday, May 9, 2024, Downtown Branch officers responded to a disturbance in the area of 108A Avenue and 98 Street. It was reported to police that a large group of people were fighting in a nearby parking lot.

Upon arrival, officers located 39-year-old Joshua Cardinal with life-threatening injuries. EMS responded, treated and transported him to hospital; however, he succumbed to his injuries.

The Edmonton Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy on Monday, May 13, 2024, and determined that Cardinal died as a result of multiple stab wounds, and the manner of death was homicide.

Brad Alook, 34, has since been charged with second degree murder.
