At approximately 8 p.m. on May 22, 2025, police responded to the report of an assault in the area of 65 Avenue and 172 Street. Upon arrival, police located an injured 20-year-old male. At this time, the injured male was offered support and medical treatment from police and EMS, which he refused.
Approximately one week later, it was reported that the 20-year-old male died in Wetaskiwin, Alta. As such, Wetaskiwin RCMP took over the investigation, and an autopsy was conducted on June 4, 2025, and further testing was required to determine the manner of death.
Given the reported assault police responded to in Edmonton on May 22, it was determined that EPS homicide detectives would take over the investigation.
On Oct. 20, 2025, the Edmonton Medical Examiner confirmed Lovondre Swampy, 20, died as a result of a homicide. The cause of death was blunt force trauma.
On Nov. 20, 2025, a warrant was issued for the arrest of a male suspect who was a 17-year-old youth at the time of the offence. The male turned himself in on Nov. 21, 2025, and was charged with second degree murder.
In accordance with the Youth Criminal Justice Act, the EPS will not be publishing the male’s name. Police are not seeking any other suspects in relation to this homicide.
