Of the total 695 traffic violations, a combined (automated and manned enforcement) 195 were related to speed. There were also 500 other violations, which included 83 red light violation infractions, 152 non-hazardous TSA infractions (equipment, documents etc.), 111 hazardous infractions (moving violations), five distracting driving violations and six criminal code driving offences.
“Given the changes in effect for Automated Traffic Enforcement (ATE), these numbers are quite a bit lower than last year,” says Sgt. Kerry Bates. “However, officers continue to use our existing resources to conduct traffic enforcement and ATE is still in place around playgrounds and construction sites, as well as at select red lights. EPS will continue to work with our partners at the City of Edmonton to measure data to identify areas of need within the city.”
The Edmonton Police Service and the City of Edmonton coordinate regular enforcement campaigns throughout the year (such as Operation 24 Hours) to improve traffic safety on Edmonton’s roadways.
