For Immediate Release: 30-May-2025 @ 10:29 AM
MRU #: TR25019

The Edmonton Police Service (EPS) Traffic Safety Unit has once again launched Project TENSOR (Traffic Enforcement Noise/Speed Offence Reductions) for summer—an annual traffic initiative involving EPS, City of Edmonton Peace Officers and Alberta Transportation aimed at noise and speeding across the city.

Project TENSOR targets most traffic offences including but not limited to:

  • Noise Related Offences
  • Speeding
  • Stunting
  • Helmet Violations
  • General Equipment Violations
  • Occupant Restraints
  • Other Hazardous Moving Violations
  • Suspended Drivers
  • Document Offences and
  • Criminal Code Offences

“Traffic issues, especially noise and speeding, continue to generate the bulk of the complaints received by Traffic Section from the general public,” says Sergent Kerry Bates of the EPS Traffic Safety Unit. “We certainly understand the public’s frustration with these issues and developed Project TENSOR as an ongoing initiative to address these concerns through enforcement and education.”

The first deployment took place on Friday, May 23, 2025, and resulted in:

  • 7 Vehicle Equipment Regulations (noise-related) and 3 warnings issued
  • 23 General Equipment Violations
  • 27 Speeding Violations
  • 18 Notice of Directions (repair equipment and report back to police)
  • 21 Hazardous Violations (moving violations other than speed such as unsafe turns or lane changes)
  • 73 Non-Hazardous Violations (administrative or moving violations deemed not to be hazardous. ex. driving in bus lane)
